Rakan Handaka Sonja with a jui sceptre. Ivory. Last third 19th century

Signed on an oval reserve: Tomochika
Seated on a rock, his left foot resting on his right knee. A tiger stands at his side with its tail raised and licking its teeth, which it obviously values. Ivory, finely and thoughtfully carved and engraved.

Compare the signature in: Lazarnick, p. 1148. Four artists are listed here under this name, mostly Tomochika III, who according to Lazarnick, took the name from 1863 and worked for the export market.
