A Gothic two-handled mortar with a T-shaped pestle

Cast bronze with golden brown patina. Of tapering form with four angular ribs terminating in spandrel feet, the moulded rim with three protruding bosses (possibly for a lid). Decorated with several bands of moulding. Two angular handles. The lower section rounded and the base rounded and cracked due to use. H 15.6, D 13.7 cm. Weight c. 2 kg. Includes a corresponding T-shaped pestle.
Attributed to Northern Germany, 16th/17th century.
