An Utrecht mortar dated 1541

Golden brown cast bronze with dark brown patina. Of tapering form with a flaring stepped base and moulded rim. With a central band of moulding above flowerheads on an earth mound base. A broad band below the rim inscribed in capital letters: "ANNO SALVTIS NOSTRE 1541". H 14.2, D 15.1 cm. Weight c. 3.8 kg. Includes a corresponding pestle.
