South German Renaissance mortar made for Melchior Rudolph Schwengefeldt

Thick cast bronze with golden brown patina, partially engraved. Cylindrical form with a thick, moulded base and slightly flaring rim. The small handles formed as dolphins. The broad rim inscribed with the name of the patron in capital letters: "MELCHIOR RVDOLFPH SCHWENGEFELDT". Patina slightly worn, minor dents to the rim. H 21.6, D 18.1 cm. Weight c. 8.3 kg.
Attributed to Nuremberg, first half 17th century.
