An early Grassmayr mortar dated 1647

Golden brown cast bronze with slightly silvery shimmering patina. The display side decorated with a row of putto heads, grotesques, vases of flowers, grapevines, lion mascarons and a central medallion. Inscribed above and amidst the depiction with the owner's monogram and the date "M A B 1647". Scroll handle with a figurehead. Casting faults to the base, the interior discoloured. H 17.2, D 14.9 cm. Weight c. 3.2 kg. Includes a corresponding pestle.
