A Renaissance mortar with arabesques

Thick golden brown cast bronze with fine natural patina and partially chased décor. Cylindrical form with moulded base and moulded flaring rim. The centre decorated with a broad band of dense arabesques surrounding a central grotesque mascaron. With two short foliate scroll handles. A dent to the rim. H 14.8, D 19.1 cm. Weight c. 7.9 kg.
