A dated mortar made for Johannes Kohler

Cast bronze with dark brown patina. Cylindrical form with moulded base and rim, the rim slightly flaring. Both sides decorated: The front with an oval medallion depicting what appears to be a charcoal burner at his work flanked by scrolls, the reverse with the patron's name and the date in capital letters: "IOANES KOHLER 1746". H 15.1, D 14.6 cm. Weight c. 4.9 kg.
Attributed to Tirol or Bohemia, 1746.
