A rare Hungarian mortar

Cast bronze with dark brown patina. Cylindrical form with inclined waisted base and slightly flaring rim. The handles formed as stylised dolphins. The broad rim inscribed in capital letters: "GROFF ARVA NEMES KLARA ANNO 1779". A horizontal crack to the lower section and a second vertical crack, presumably with an old repair, the inside dull. H 19, D 18.4 cm. Weight c. 8.1 kg.
