A wood, lacquer and mother of pearl netsuke of a kappa and a catfish. Mid-19th century

The kappa is seated, holding a catfish in its hands. Finely carved, the fish and the kappa’s carapace completely covered with red lacquer and some gold lacquer. The cavity on the kappa’s head inlaid with mother of pearl. Restored.
Height 3.2 cm
