A pair of 14k gold "a chioccia" earrings

Chandelier form gold filigree earrings with natural pearls and coral beads and central articulated gold enamelled bird pendants (representing the Holy Spirit). With replaced screw-on closures, some pearl droplets lost. Total H 7.5 cm. Weight 17.26 g.
Italy, Adriatic region, 18th / 19th C.

These filigree pendant earrings, somewhat reminiscent of Venetian chandeliers, were part of the festive folk costume of the Adriatic region. They are mainly found in the area of Trieste, Istria and Dalmatia.
