A glass beaker with the Saxon-Polish coat of arms

Cylindrical beaker painted in enamels with the crowned white star coat of arms surrounded by the blue and white collar of the Danish Order of the Elephant. Inscribed above "F.A.R.P.E.S." (for Fridericus Augustus Rex Poloniae Elector Saxoniae) on a banderole and dated 1701 beside the elephant pendant. H 15 cm.
Attributed to Dresden, 1701.

Augustus the Strong wore the badge of the royal Danish Order of the Elephant on his golden robes during his coronation as King of Poland in Wawel palace in Krakau on 15th September 1697. His state regalia, consisting of a robe, vest, trousers, baldric, and a pair of stockings, is still housed in the Dresden armoury to this day (inv. no. i. 0025.01).
