Gouache on ivory. Portraits of Kings Friedrich II and Friedrich Wilhelm II in Prussian uniforms wearing the badges of the Order of the Black Eagle. Mounted as a pendant in a swivel setting. 2 x 1.7 cm. Total H 3 cm.
German school, c. 1780.

This portrait of Frederick the Great (Berlin 17712 - Potsdam 1786) is based on a portrait of the king in his old age painted by Anton Graff, whereas that of his nephew and successor Friedrich Wilhelm II (Berlin 1744 - Potsdam 1797) is based on a contemporary print.
