A dated Dutch mortar with a romantic inscription

Golden brown cast bronze with honey coloured natural patina. With a central horizontal moulding, two bands of acanthus, and half-length grotesque figures flanked by cornucopias and arabesque tendrils. With a broad inscription in capital letters below the rim: “AMOR VINCIT OMNIA ANNO 1606”. With zoomorphic handles. H 13.5, D 14 cm, weight c. 3.2 kg.
