A large Gothic single-handled mortar

Golden brown cast bronze with natural patina. Of almost cylindrical form resting on four paw feet from which issue one shorter and three longer angular ribs. With flaring moulded rim and a large, angular, octagonally faceted handle. The indentations and the interior with verdigris and rust, minor dents throughout, minor casting flaws around the handles (on the interior and exterior). H 21, D 17.6 cm, weight c. 4.8 kg. Includes the original iron pestle. L 35.8 cm.
