A North German single-handled mortar

Golden brown cast bronze with natural patina. Of cylindrical form with a flaring, moulded base and slightly flaring rim. Decorated with five bands of moulding and six short ribs around the base. The base slightly rounded due to use and with a casting fault, a horizontal crack in the lower section. H 21, D 14.8 cm, weight c. 3.7 kg. Includes a corresponding T-shaped pestle. L 32 cm.
Attributed to Lower Saxony, 15th C.
