A Nuremberg single-handled mortar

Golden brown cast bronze with dark brown patina. Of tapering form resting on four outswept bracket feet from which issue four angular demi-ribs. With flaring moulded rim and angular, octagonally faceted handle. The base slightly rounded due to use, two wide cracks to the slightly protruding lower section, minor dents and scratches throughout. H 16.7, D 14.9 cm, weight c. 3 kg. Includes a corresponding T-shaped pestle. L 23 cm.
