A mortar with moulded heads

Cast bronze with blackish brown patina. Of cylindrical form with a protruding base and flaring rim. Both sides decorated with acanthus leaf reliefs and a garland of fruit suspended from drapery. With moulded decoration above and below. The handles formed as male heads. H 29, D 33.7 cm, weight c. Includes a tapering iron pestle with a hanging attachment. L 53 cm.
Attributed to Northern Italy, 17th C.
