An Italian mortar

Cast bronze with mottled golden brown patina. Of slightly tapering form with a narrower base and funnel-like rim. With two C-scroll handles. The raised lower section decorated with a band of foliage beneath laurel garlands, a round medallion monogrammed “APF” and a winged angel's head. H 17.3, D 19.6 cm, weight c. 8.5 kg. Includes a pestle with rounded terminals. L c. 24.5 cm.
