A five-case inro. First half 19th century

The body with a shiny black lacquer background with iris, a bridge and three fireflies, all in takamakie, red and black lacquer, kirikane, gold and silver foil, and a single aogai inlay. Nashiji and fundame to the inside. Traces of use, the metal foils generally creased.
Height 9.1 cm; width 5.4 cm

The bridge shown here is reminiscent of the Uji bridge crossing the eponymous river, while the fireflies along the river Uji are a popular attraction in summer evenings.
