An Italian mortar made by Stephanus Parari

Golden brown cast bronze with honey coloured patina. Cylindrical mortar inscribed beneath the moulded rim in Latin capital letters: "PARARI STEPHANVS FECIT" and below "KEMINI AD 1594". Decorated with seated cat motifs in relief on either side. With wear throughout, horizontal hairline cracks above the base, one handle with a casting flaw. H 12.5, D 12.5 cm, weight c. 2.2 kg.
