An Islamic mortar

Cast bronze with copper inlays, remnants of red pigment and slight verdigris. Decorated with two rows of lotus bud reliefs alternating with rhombus motifs connected by braided bands. The upper and lower rims with calligraphic inscriptions. With cracks, a cracked dent and dents along the upper rim. H 14.7, D 19.9 cm, includes pestle, weight with pestle c. 6.8 kg.
