A large blue and white dish. Jiajing period (1522–1566)

With flaring shaped rim, decorated in underglaze-blue with a phoenix perched on a rock watching the sun indicated by the character "ri" in a circle within a cloud, around the well with a band of entwined foliate scrollwork, the rim with hatch pattern, to the exterior with three winged dragons pursuing flaming pearls amidst flames and above waves, beneath a whorl pattern border. A four-character mark Da Ming Nian Zao (Made During the Great Ming Dynasty) to the base.
