An Indo-Portuguese ivory figure of Corpus Christi. India, Goa. 17th/18th century

The arms with strong veins spread apart, the loin cloth tied to the waist with a cord, the seams decorated with a thin beaded border, the lids lowered, the mouth closed, the hair and beard falling in undulating strands, a crown of thorns on the head. Attached to a velvet-covered board with copper nails. Fingers, toes and part of the loin cloth missing.
