Anthony of Padua and the appearance of the Christ Child
Austro-Bohemian school, attributed to Johannes Ronstift, 1674.

Glass panel painted on reverse in eglomisé technique with gold leaf, transparent pigments in camaieu technique and opaque pigments. Etched monogram "J.V.R. 1674" lower right. Ebonised softwood frame, H 33.8, W 29 cm.

The artist behind the monogram "JVR" has not yet been identified. It may have been the Bohemian painter Johannes Ronstift, from whom an eglomisé painting inscribed "Johannes Ronstift dedizirt 1673." has survived in a private collection in Prague.
This reverse glass painting reproduces the motif of an etching after Simone Cantarini (1612 - 1648), a pupil of Guido Reni.
This lot includes the original print.
