Reliquary pendant with Saint Peter
Northern Spain, around 1600

Glass painted on reverse in eglomisé technique with opaque and lustrous pigments, etched gold leaf, shell gold and silver, tin leaf. The glass of the reverse with a central horizontal crack. In the original silver capsule frame, H 6.6, W 5.3 cm.

The paintings that decorate this double-sided capsule pendant are generously executed with fluid brushstrokes and show St. Peter in a stylised landscape on the front and the Crucifixion with auxiliary figures on the reverse, each framed by a gold-etched ornamental border.
