A reliquary pendant with the Agnus Dei
Lombardy, late 16th C.

Glass painted on reverse in eglomisé technique with opaque and lustrous pigments, etched gold leaf, tin leaf. The underside of the glass with a chip in the upper left, minor moisture damage. In the original silver frame engraved with the Virgin Mary's monogram on the reverse, H 7.7, W 4.7 cm.

The Bavarian National Museum houses a reliquary capsule with a depiction of the Crucifixion that is highly similar to this octagonal vermeil pendant with a dentile surround and central convex glazed reliquary (inv. no. 55/192). The piece in the Bavarian National Museum is tentatively attributed to "Northern Italy (?), second half 16th century".
