With a label from Kuindszhi's works catalogue on the reverse, confirming the authenticity in Cyrillic and inscribed with the number 146.
In this oil study, Kuindszhi's style is exemplified in the minimalist composition and dramatic light and colours. He painted Mount Elbrus in the Caucasus in several studies, including a view by moonlight painted in 1895 that is now housed in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Kuindszhi travelled through the Caucasus from 1888 to 1909 and created several series depicting the Caucasian mountain landscapes and Mount Elbrus at different times of day.
