An ivory okimono-type netsuke of a skull and sansukumi. Second half 19th century

The naturalistically carved skull is surrounded by a winding snake, a slithering slug, and a frog climbing up the rear of the head, the three animals emblematic of bringing death to each other. Signed Ko with kao in an irregular cartouche. The eyes of the slug of black horn.
