A mortar with Christian motifs

Cast bronze with dark brown patina. Of tapering form with inclined waisted base and several bands of horizontal mouldings. The centre decorated with three large plaques depicting the Virgin and Child, Saint Anthony of Padua, and John the Baptist alternating with acanthus leaves. Small dents to the rim. H 14.8, D 16 cm. Weight c. 2.9 kg. Includes a corresponding pestle.
Attributed to Northern Italy, possibly Padua or Venice, first half 18th century.
