In five parts. The base consisting of a red-lacquered plinth and two cabinets with various compartments and drawers, the shrine proper with three niches and an elaborately carved frieze (ranma), an altar table and three further drawers, to be closed by an inner folding door with carved panels and an outer black- and gold- lacquered folding door. The inside rendered in gilding, the carved panels with pigments. Chiselled gilt-copper fixtures. At the sides iron loops for the carrying poles. Losses to many of the carved panels.

Every region in Japan has their own style of butsudan. The present butsudan probably was manufactured in Osaka or the Kansai area where special attention was given to profusely carved ranma and decorative panels.
