A Gothic single-handled mortar with lion's paw feet

Golden brown cast bronze with natural patina. Of tapering form resting on five finely sculpted paw feet from which issue one shorter and four longer angular ribs. With protruding moulded rim and an angular, octagonally faceted handle with later engravings on the upper face (eight horizontal lines). The base and lower section slightly rounded due to use, a crack slightly above the base. H 16.5, D 14.3 cm, weight c. 2 kg. Includes a corresponding T-shaped pestle. L 22.5 cm.
