A magnificent South German single-handled mortar with tendril motifs

Golden brown cast bronze with silver-gold patina. Of almost cylindrical form, the base slightly rounded due to use. Resting on four paw feet from which issue three short foliate ribs and one shorter rib below the large, angular, octagonally faceted handle. Minor dents to the rim, unevenly chased around the bases of the handles. H 18.5, D 16.8 cm, weight c. 4.8 kg.
