A Nuremberg single-handled mortar with mascarons

Golden brown cast bronze with blackish brown patina. Of tapering form resting on four paw feet crowned with lion mascarons from which issue three long angular ribs. With flaring moulded rim and narrow, angular, octagonally faceted handle with engravings on the outer facet. Slightly rounded due to use, the lower section slightly protruding, some verdigris, minor abrasions and dents. H 17.8, D 17.4 cm, weight c. 4.3 kg.
