A magnificent Gothic single-handled mortar with lion's paw feet

Golden brown cast bronze with fine natural patina. Of tapering form resting on four finely chased paw feet from which issue one shorter and three longer angular ribs. With flaring moulded rim and angular, octagonally faceted handle. Minor surface dents. H 17.6, D 17.4 cm, weight c. 5.8 kg.
Attributed to Southern Germany or Nuremberg, 15th C.
