A rare Gothic single-handled mortar

Yellow gold cast bronze with honey coloured patina. Of tapering form resting on four bracket feet from which issue one shorter and three longer ribs with low relief decor. With flaring moulded rim and large, angular, octagonally faceted handle. Some dents and defects, minor verdigris to the interior. H 16, D 17.5 cm, weight c. 3.8 kg. Includes a corresponding bronze pestle with node and bail. L 27.1 cm.
