An Italian mortar with acanthus relief

Golden brown cast bronze with copper-coloured patina (slightly mottled in places). Tapering vase-shaped mortar decorated with a band of acanthus leaves and pine cones connected by a garland. Wear throughout, mottled patina, remnants of pigment to the interior. H 10.6, D 13.3 cm, includes a double-ended pestle, weight with pestle c. 2.6 kg.
Presumably Northern Italy, 16th / 17th C.
