A Portuguese silver and garnet Cross of the Order of Christ with diamonds.

Commander's cross pendant with paw terminals set with step-cut garnets in foiled settings and a diamond encrusted Latin cross applique. Floral terminal set with rose-cut diamonds with a bail on the reverse. No hallmarks. One garnet defective. 5.2 x 2.9 cm. Weight 16.62 g.

The Ordem de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo was a Portuguese knightly order founded in 1319 with headquarters in Castro Marim in the Algarve, which was dissolved in 1834. In 1918 it was re-established as a state military order of merit and is still awarded today.
